Malden's Stokelan Drive Christian Church will hold their sixth annual Free to Run race on Saturday, September 17, beginning at 8 a.m.

The popular event is held each year in memory of Debra Algood with the proceeds going to worthy causes. This year, the money will go to the local food bank. Participants may choose to take part in either a one mile walk, a 5K (3.1) mile run, or a 10K (6.2 mile) run with each event beginning and ending at the church.

Participants are divided by sex and age (15 and under, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, 90-99, or 100+). Free race shirts will be given to those who register before August 18. Entry fee through August 17 is mile-$15, 5K-$25, and 10K-$35. From August 18 through the day of the race the fees will be mile-$20, 5K-$30, and 10K-$40. Competitors in the 5K and 10K events must be 12 years or older. Participants may receive $5 off their entry fee by bringing five or more non-perishable food items.

Besides the races, attendees may purchase tickets for a drawing of various items. Tickets for those drawings are $1 each, 6 for $5 or 15 for $10.

Participants are urged to arrive early as the race will begin at precisely 8 a.m.
