Green Wave ladies open basketball season against Oran
On Monday, November 21, the Malden High School girls’ basketball team hosted the Oran girls’ team in the Green Wave’s first game of the season. The contests ended in a double win for the Lady Eagles.
Malden fell 41-8 in the junior varsity contest with Oran taking all four quarters 12-0, 7-3, 13-3, and 9-2.
Green Wave Shamya Dobbins tossed in a two and a bonus point for three total. Macy Walker equaled that with a three-pointer. Madison Mittag added a two to the Green Wave gals’ score.
The Lady Eagles were led by Taylor Lowes who hit four two-pointers and a three for 11 points.
After leading the first quarter 20-16, the Green Wave couldn’t defend against Oran’s shooting and were edged out for the lead just before halftime, losing the remaining three periods 23-16, 23-12, and 13-6 to fall 75-44.
Jada Criglar fired in six from inside the arc and hit one of three from the line to total 13 points. Tebrya Benford hit five inside field goals and three of six bonus shots to score 13 as well. Desiree Perkins hit Malden’s only three-pointer along with a pair of twos and a free throw to follow with eight points. Lana Reed hit two from the bonus slash and added a pair of twos for six. Aylexus LeShay and Macy Walker contributed two points each.
Leah Caulde blasted in nine of 11 aces, 10 deuces, and four treys to lead the Lady Eagles with 41 points.
The Green Wave will travel to Kelly tomorrow to face the Lady Hawks.
