SEMO releases non-conference basketball schedules
The Southeast Missouri State menís basketball team revealed its non-conference schedule for the 2017-18 season on Friday.
The slate features 13 non-conference games, beginning with the home opener against Missouri Baptist on Nov. 10.
The Redhawks will travel to face Louisiana Tech (Nov. 13) and Evansville (Nov. 16) as part of the Cancun Challenge. Theyíll continue the multi-team showcase against Cal State Northridge on Nov. 21 in Cancun, Mexico, before closing it out the following day against either Binghamton or Montana State.
Southeast will then return to the Show Me Center to take on North Carolina Central (Nov. 26) and Hannibal-LaGrange (Nov. 28) before hitting the road to face North Carolina Central on Dec. 2. The Redhawks will return home on Dec. 6 to face Missouri-Kansas City.
Three of SEMOís final four non-conference games will be on the road. Southeast will travel to face regional rival Southern Illinois (Dec. 9) and Kansas State (Dec. 16) before returning to the Show Me Center to take on Bradley (Dec. 20).
The Redhawks will wrap up their non-conference slate on Dec. 22 against host Saint Louis.
Following coach Rick Rayís second year at the helm, Southeast is coming off a 15-18 campaign in 2016-17.
The Southeast Missouri State womenís basketball team also released its non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season on Thursday.
Highlights include the Preseason NIT - opening the campaign at Louisville -- a home game against regional rival Southern Illinois, a trip to Kansas and the programís very own Thanksgiving event, the SEMO Thanksgiving Classic.
The Classic will be played at the Show Me Center, with the Redhawks scheduled to take on Evangel on Nov. 24 and Bradley on Nov. 25.
This is only the third time in the Division I era that Southeast has hosted its own Thanksgiving event, the last being the Southeast Hospital Classic in 2005, with Milwaukee and Henderson State participating.
The Redhawks also played host to the Otahkian Shootout in 1994 to begin the season. That featured Southwest Louisiana and Chattanooga.
Four non-conference foes from last season again appear on the schedule, with Southeast traveling to Cincinnati (Nov. 30) and Western Illinois (Dec. 5) while SIU (Nov. 22) and Evansville (Dec. 19) both come to Cape Girardeau.
The home opener will be versus Missouri Valley on Nov. 14 with a mid-day game for Classroom at the Court.
Southeast finished with a 13-17 record in 2016-17, the second season under coach Rekha Patterson.
